Where the Real Power Lies

A wise and brave man once said that a government should be set up so that no man need be afraid of another. Unfortunately, the reality is that many people all over the world are terrified of their government. In fact, it seems that some governments have no qualms to steal from its populace, first money then individual freedoms. What many of these people don’t understand is that they, the citizens of the country, outnumber government employees 20 to 1 and, if they ever decided to unite, they would be unstoppable.

In fact, it reminds me of another saying by a wise and brave man that went something to the tune of that a people should never be afraid of their government but that a government should be afraid of its people. Because, in any government, where does the real power lie? Not in the halls of government but in the hands off its people, in every man and woman.

Often, governments tend to forget that. And, often, governments tend to impose restrictions on the population, often in the form of gun-laws. An unarmed populace is, after all, easier to control. And in certain countries, particularly in South Africa, this is obviously a bad move. South Africa has some of the highest crime rates in the world and many of those crimes are perpetrated by armed criminals.

Taking away the only means for the ordinary citizen to defend him or herself is not only wrong but irresponsible. Now, due to restrictive gun laws, it’s important to acquire a firearm and to learn how to use it. The criminal has more than enough access to firearms. If they’re not flowing into SA from countries like Zimbabwe and Mozambique, they can be found in caches all over South Africa. Criminals can even get guns directly from corrupt police officers. In fact, a corrupt officer was recently arrested for selling purportedly "destroyed" guns to Western Cape gangsters.

If the government won’t help you and neither will the police force then it’s up to you to protect both yourself and your family. Fortunately, many free South Africans, of all races and creeds, believe in a democracy that stands up for its people and many of these free South Africans are proud gun owners.

And there’s nothing wrong with being a proud gun owner. Gun owners have taken that additional step to ensure the safety of their family and themselves and, in any country that is where the real power lies. Many proud gun owners own gun shops and shooting ranges and are more than willing to help any novice to learn the ropes. And learning how to operate and maintain a firearm is easy.

These weapons are often designed for convenience and comfort of use. So, protect yourself and buy a gun and join thousands of South Africans in showing the criminals where the real power lies.
